Regardless of what movies show you, silencers have never really been silent. They've always managed to suppress the deafening concussion of sound waves to make shooting 'hearing safe,' but they've never managed to make them silent.

Fast forward to this decade, there are a few companies that have made caliber specific 'silent' sound suppressors. Mostly in large, slow-moving, sub-sonic ammo loads... but these guys have managed silence with regular, high-velocity rounds. It's remarkable.

Even taming the excruciatingly loud .50BMG.

Given how these technologies are priced, I didn't even bother trying to find a price for them. I'm fairly confident they're out of my price range. But it's still cool.
