I completely applaud this man. There have been so many times I wanted to know exactly how many "honest" panhandlers there were. I understand "hard times," probably better than most people. But also, there is the old belief that "the money is just going to be spent on alcohol" and there are the stories about crews of panhandlers being dropped off and picked up at the end of the day. I have heard that some of these people collect hundreds of dollars a day.

I, like the Oklahoma City man in the video, have gone without so I could help someone less fortunate than myself. But I have also gone without because I couldn't find work. And while I never panhandled, there were times I considered it. Pride prevented me. In all honesty, I'm not sure I would have given her until "tomorrow" as he did. I may be more understanding about the situation of being without, but I am also less likely to be tolerant of some one "playing" the situation.

And before anyone starts quoting on me, I do believe in offering kindness to others. But I also believe that there are more than a few people in this world who are willing to make their living preying on the kindness of others. I believe the Oklahoma City woman in the video above is one of those, as is the "professional panhandler" in the video below.

The sad part is mentioned in the video above. The ones really affected are those truly less fortunate who really need a hand and whose chance of being helped are diminished because of scam artists like these.
