Kris Letang scored the go-ahead goal halfway through the second period, and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Sharks, 3-1, in San Jose in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals on Sunday night to claim their fourth NHL championship in franchise history.

Pittsburgh team captain Sidney Crosby won his first Conn Smythe trophy as playoff MVP. He set up Letang’s goal and stopped a shot from Marc-Edouard Vlasic that led to an empty-net goal by Patric Hornqvist which iced the game and the title.

Goalie Matt Murray made 18 saves for the Penguins, who won the Stanley Cup for the first time since 2009. They also won the title in 1991 and 1992.
