'Pussy Riot - A Punk Prayer,' a documentary about the imprisoned Russian punk band, has been picked up by HBO. The cable-TV network will most likely air the movie sometime this year.

The documentary -- which focuses on three members of Pussy Riot, the Moscow-based music and arts collective that has been all over the news the past several months -- made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival over the weekend. 'Billboard' reports that HBO Documentary Films acquired the rights to show the documentary.

The film, which was in Sundance competition for world cinema documentary, chronicles the plight of three Pussy Riot members who were arrested in March for staging a "punk prayer" inside a Moscow cathedral. In August, they were convicted and sentenced to two years in prison.

Just last week, one of the members, Maria Alekhina, was denied an appeal that was filed on her sentence. She has a five-year-old son at home and asked the court to drop the charges against her.

'Pussy Riot - A Punk Prayer,' which is directed and produced by Mike Lerner and Maxim Pozdorovkin, takes a look at the feminist art collective and its struggle over the past year after charges of religious hatred catapulted them into the national spotlight, where everyone from Green Day to Madonna to Jesus backed them with support.

Dave Grohl's 'Sound City' documentary was also a hit at Sundance. The film, about a legendary recording studio, will start rolling out across the country next month.
