They told you they had a bunch of B-sides stored up in the vaults and ready to release, and now the Red Hot Chili Peppers are starting to dole out all those goodies they promised — beginning with the new 7″ single ‘Strange Man’ and ‘Long Progression.’

For vinyl aficionados (or those who just prefer buying directly from the artist), the single is already available for purchase via the band’s website — or if digital convenience is more your style, you can also obtain the new songs through iTunes and the Amazon MP3 store.

‘Strange Man’ and ‘Long Progression’ find the band operating at two speeds, with the former serving up a slower funk groove and the latter dishing out a vintage Chili Peppers rocker. Taken as a whole, they offer a good look at the two sides of the band’s personality, and act as compelling proof that they’re currently operating at peak efficiency.

Check out the new songs below, and let us know if they have made you more (or less) eager to hear the next 16 tracks in the Chili Peppers’ B-side release series.
