A Response to Protest Oklahoma’s Possible Hoodie Law

As Oklahoma's now famous 'hoodie law' makes the rounds online, the protests are taking to the land of comfortable hooded sweatshirts. 

Sticker and printing company, Bumper Active out of Austin, TX, is currently getting a little skin in the hoodie game. Putting Oklahoma's most famous hoodie connoisseur on the front in what looks like a fashion police arrest. Yes, it's a parody - No, Eskimo Joe's has nothing to do with it - but it strikes a major chord with those who aren't fans of the legislation.

Lawton's own, OK State Senator Don Barrington is the lead politician on State Senate Bill 13 - aka: The Hoodie Law. It has gained some serious national attention, both online via outlets like Reddit and in the radio and television media.

The biggest misconception and the reason why Don's office was flooded with calls and emails, is that this law outlaws hoodies - and it doesn't (sort of).

The law, in his own words, would prohibit citizens from purposefully concealing their identity. Not 'during a crime' or 'in conjunction with illegal activity', just plain concealing your identity.

Straight from the bill:

Section 1301.

It shall be unlawful for any person in this state

B.

To intentionally conceal his or her identity in a public place by means of a robe, mask, or other disguise.

Either way, just when you think it has become 'old news,' something pops into view and restarts the conversation.
