Earlier this week, the Pentagon declared the end of the Iraq War, an almost nine-year conflict which claimed 4,487 American lives and removed Saddam Hussein from power. Now, Americans are are conflicted over whether the entire endeavor was worth it.

Recently, the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press asked 2,001 adults if using military force in Iraq was the right decision. 48 percent of the survey’s respondents said that it was, whereas 46 percent answered that it was the wrong decision. Six percent had no opinion on the question.

Party affiliation had a lot to do with whether a person supported the military action. 72 percent of Republicans agreed with the decision to use force compared with 44 percent of independents and 37 percent of Democrats.
