Alzheimer's disease is relentless.  Ask anyone who has a family member that suffers with this merciless disease.  It slowly robs you of your memories, your health, and eventually of your very life.  I have participated in the SW Oklahoma Walk to End Alzheimer's for several years at the urging of my daughter, Whitney, who is the Assistant Executive Director for Brookdale Ten Oaks retirement community.  Ten Oaks has a special unit that specializes in Alzheimer's patients.  My mother is a resident there.

For years I was able to share the plight of the Alzheimer's patient without actual first hand knowledge.  Today is a different story. This year,  I will walk for my Mother and for the other residents in the Clare Bridge unit at Brookdale Ten Oaks.  I will walk for those family members who, like myself continue to see our Mothers and Fathers with our memories as we try with all of our might to get them to eat just one more bite.  I will continue to remember for my Momma and tell her the stories of our lives and remind her how very much she is loved. And I will walk in the hopes that my daughter and her daughter will not have to help me remember too.
