Sex Pistols Legend Paul Cook Plays ‘Wikipedia: Fact or Fiction?’

After a little break for the 2017 Loudwire Music Awards, we’re back with new episodes of ‘Wikipedia: Fact or Fiction?’. In this episode, Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook proves and disproves what’s written about the punk legends on Wikipedia.

Cook cleared up some fiction right away about the formation of the Sex Pistols. According to Wikipedia, Kevin Rowland from Dexys Midnight Runners auditioned for the Pistols, but nobody was impressed by Rowland except for bassist Glen Matlock. According to Cook, Kevin Rowland never auditioned for the Pistols and was never considered to potentially join the band.

Another correction on a potential Pistol comes later in our interview, with Cook denying that Edward Tudor-Pole was being considered to replace Johnny Rotten after the Sex Pistols’ infamous breakup while touring the U.S. Though Tudor-Pole appears in The Great Rock ’n’ Roll Swindle, he was never going to be the next Pistols singer.

One of the more entertaining entries on Wikipedia for the Sex Pistols reads that the band left Johnny Rotten stranded in Los Angeles with no plane ticket, no hotel room and a message sent to Warner Bros. Records saying that if anyone called claiming to be Johnny Rotten, that person was lying. “That’s probably just John moaning,” Cook laughs.
