Star Wars: Battlefront Trailer: The Epic Video Game Franchise Is Back!
With the ‘Star Wars‘ franchise ready to thrive again on the big screen and on television with ‘Star Wars: Episode 7‘ and ‘Star Wars Rebels,’ it’s only natural that this cultural juggernaut would next turn its attention to the video game consoles. Where previously EA Games announced development on Star Wars: Battlefront, the first trailer has arrived to preview the upcoming reboot of a beloved but dormant franchise.
The Star Wars: Battlefront trailer, which debuted during the big E3 Conference on Monday, doesn’t contain any finished game footage or go into any detail about what updates have gone into the game’s engine. Instead, this almost entirely live-action teaser is more of a promise from the developer, Dice. The footage follows the development team as they research the game, explore the actual locations where the original films were shot, and wax poetically about what ‘Star Wars’ means to them. It’s all very nice and dramatic, but we’d feel a little better about all of this if Dice hadn’t botched Battlefield 4 so hard. Then again, they had a pretty stellar track record before that debacle, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best.
The original Star Wars: Battlefront games followed a template that’s still being used in most action games today: players pick a side (Rebel or Imperial, Clone or Separatist, etc.), pick a character class (scout, medic, heavy, etc.) and proceed to shoot the heck out of each other. We don’t need much more than that, really. Just make it nice and shiny and pretty and next gen, and we’ll be perfectly happy.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Star Wars: Battlefront is the ultimate Star Wars battle experience, brought to life by the creators of Battlefield. Fight in epic Star Wars battles on iconic planets and rise through the ranks playing as the heroic Rebellion or the evil galactic Empire.
Well, that’s all we need to hear! Star Wars: Battlefront is expected to arrive in the spring of 2015, and for an additional look, here’s the announcement trailer that debuted during last year’s E3 Conference:
