Although fans weren’t in as quite an uproar when J.J. Abrams was announced to director ‘Star Wars: Episode 7‘ as, say, when a certain ‘Daredevil’ took on The Dark Knight, but there was a pocket of die hards doubting whether the ‘Star Trek’ helmer could carry the next chapter of ‘Star Wars.’ For those still questioning his abilities, Abrams recently opened up about the next installment.

Speaking with EW regarding fan reaction and all the “advice” he’s been getting about where to take ‘Star Wars: Episode 7,’ Abrams said:

It’s been nice see that how important it is and to be reminded how important it is to so many people. We all know that [creator George Lucas'] dream has become almost a religion to some people. I remember reading a thing somewhere, someone wrote about just wanting [the new film] to feel real; to feel authentic. I remember I felt that way when I was 11 years old when I saw the first one. As much of a fairy tale as it was, it felt real. And to me, that is exactly right.

While he refrained from citing any one particular movie in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise as inspiration, it seems as though he’s looking to, as he said, “the first one,” ‘A New Hope.’ However, “it’s going to be an evolving thing,” he says. “I would say we are working really hard to make a movie that feels as emotional and authentic and exciting as possible. Whatever your favorite ‘Star Wars’ movie is and how to compare it is really sort of subjective.”

Lucasfilm, including Abrams, has been keeping details on ‘Star Wars: Episode 7′ under wraps, though it’s been reported that original trilogy stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher will return. As for the newcomers, names like Benedict Cumberbatch (already said to be involved), Saoirse Ronan, Michael B. Jordan, David Oyelowo, Rachel Hurd-Wood and Alex Pettyfer have all been tossed around. As we get closer to the film’s 2015 release, stay tuned for more info.
