Each state has dozens of official 'things.'  From state birds to trees and nuts, each state claims something as their own.  Did you know the state drink in Rhode Island is coffee milk? It's milk made with coffee syrup.

Oklahoma has an entire meal and we're going to help you make it.  Of course, if you actually ate all these things in one meal, you would probably fall over and die of clogged arteries.

Oklahoma's State Meal

  • Chicken Fried Steak
  • Barbeque Pork
  • Sausage and Gravy
  • Grits
  • Black-eyed peas
  • Cornbread
  • Corn on the Cob
  • Okra
  • Strawberries
  • Squash
  • Biscuits
  • Pecan Pie

Instead of ONE meal, let's break this up a little and plan a day of Oklahoma State Meals.  You'll at least be able to spread it out and possibly jog some of it off in between.

Breakfast

Lunch

  • Barbecue Pork (we suggest you ask a local and just go buy the best BBQ in town.  If you insist on making it yourself, we won't provide a recipe because ours is secret and everyone has their own 'flavor")
  • Fried Okra
  • Corn on the Cob

Dinner

Well, that's the meal.  The only recipe I'm not sure of are the black-eyed peas.  I personally HATE them and will only eat ONE on New Year's Day.  Yuck-o.  And, if you want to put a variation on a recipe, go ahead.

Oh, and if you have a delicious chocolate pecan pie recipe, I've been looking for one forever.  That is the pie we always get at Luby's in Wichita Falls but can't seem to replicate it!
