Stone Temple Pilots opened things up in 2015 as they attempted to find a new vocalist for the band. They held auditions, found multiple singers they liked, but despite a report that suggested that a new vocalist had been chosen, the band has announced that they are still holding off on a final decision.

The report that generated the need for a response came from Entertainment Tonight, who stated that onetime X Factor competitor Jeffrey Adam Gutt had landed the job. The vocalist had been working with Robert and Dean DeLeo and drummer Eric Kretz over the last few months, supposedly writing and recording material and was said to be rehearsing with the band for a 2017 tour.

However, the band issued a statement to Entertainment Weekly revealing that no decision had been made. "The band has been rehearsing with several singers over the past few weeks," a rep for Stone Temple Pilots told EW in the statement. “They haven’t made a decision yet."

The need for a new vocalist came about when Chester Bennington departed in 2015. It was an amicable split and Bennington even played a benefit show with the band earlier this year, but the Linkin Park vocalist realized that balancing his commitments to both acts was not sustainable in the long run. Bennington joined the group after a very public part of the ways with singer Scott Weiland. But any possibility for a reunion with Weiland ended in late 2015 when the singer died of an accidental drug overdose.

Stay tuned to see who Stone Temple Pilots eventually choose to front the band moving forward.
