Stryper’s Michael Sweet Attempts to Squash Beef With Motley Crue’s Nikki Sixx

A good rock beef will definitely generate headlines, but the recent back-and-forth between Stryper's Michael Sweet and Motley Crue's Nikki Sixx may not go any further. Sweet has offered a response after Sixx offered a sharp take on Sweet's criticism of Motley Crue's past autobiography, 'The Dirt.'

To recap, the beef began when Sweet was quoted in an interview about his upcoming autobiography. The rocker was posed the question as to whether or not he viewed it as important to focus on positive stories from his career rather than dealing with some of the dark periods.

As he delved into the topic, Sweet stated that while he does address such things as the period that resulted in a lot of broken marriages and relationships within the band, he didn't view it as controversial as certain rocker tomes. He then added, "Is it as controversial as Motley Crue? No, but I think half of what we hear about Motley Crue is B.S. anyway, like when you hear stories about Nikki Sixx dying three times and whatnot. It's, like, how stretched is that? I don't know, man! [Laughs] Nothing against Nikki Sixx." He then added that he felt that some of the tales told in autobiographies come from the memories of certain rockers not being clear because of all the drink and drugs consumed.

Sixx, in response, stated in a tweet, "Non addicts talking s--- about people who have fought for their live's to beat their addiction ….. ‪#‎MichaelSweet‬ ‪#‎OhHeHasABookForSale‬? ‪#‎GodBlessTheChildrenOfTheBeast‬ ‪#‎SobrietyRocks‬ ‪#‎Sad‬."

Sweet has now responded to Sixx, stating he meant no disrespect. His comment on the matter can be read in the Facebook post below:

I meant no disrespect to @NikkiSixx or @MotleyCrue and certainly not to addicts or recovering addicts. I was simply trying to convey the importance of not believing everything you hear (rumors) and giving my own opinion of some of the over-embellishments (in my opinion) that some autobiographies seem to portray. I've never even met Nikki before and I have nothing bad to say about him. I do believe that my words were taken out of context but then again, that happens to all of us from time to time. Here's what I wrote in my book:

If you've picked up this book in hopes of reading stories about me hiding in a closet shooting up heroin, buying prostitutes with all my earnings or beating the crap out of a club owner because he looked at me funny, you should probably read the Motley Crue book instead, because you won't find that here. I’m not better than they are, but my story is different. I’m not an angel, either, and I think you'll find some pretty eye-opening stories, and I hope—whether you know my music or not—you'll find them enlightening or at least entertaining.

So, simply put, Michael Sweet's book will not be similar to Motley Crue's 'The Dirt.' Sweet's book, titled 'Honestly: My Life and Stryper Revealed,' can be purchased at Sweet's webstore.
