On ‘The Colbert Report’ last night, Stephen Colbert gave a tongue-in-cheek explanation of Michele Bachmann’s recent comment that Hurricane Irene and the East coast earthquake were warnings from God to politicians.
If there were a list of commandments for politicians, we’re guessing “thou shalt not say things that sound racist when taken out of context” would be somewhere near the top.
But GOP presidential candidate and Tea Party darling Michele Bachmann apparently missed the memo, because after the group White People Funk Band — itself a regrettable name — played at one of her campaign rallies, she took the stage and asked the crowd, “Who likes White People?!”
Stephen Colbert (sort of) defended Michele Bachmann’s now-infamous, accidental comparison to serial killer John Wayne Gacy on Tuesday night’s episode of ‘The Colbert Report.’
Since the gaffe, Bachmann has admitted that she misspoke, but Colbert takes issue with her concession. “What on earth are you apologizing for? All you said is that you have the same spirit as John Wayne Gacy, and I think there is something to that.” Colbert said. “Because like Gacy, people might think you’re a clown. But if they dig a little deeper, they’ll find you are deadly serious.”
Michele Bachmann has now been told by Tom Petty that his song ‘American Girl’ is off limits for her presidential campaign.
Petty’s outspoken protectiveness of his music is certainly nothing new — in the ’80s, he engaged in a protracted public legal battle with his former label, MCA, over rising record prices, and more recently, he asked the Bush campaign to refrain from using his songs at campaign events.
