If Hollywood teaches us anything, it's that nothing is sacred. No matter how distinctive or beloved a movie might be, it could well be subject to a remake. Just this year we'll be seeing reboots of 'Evil Dead,' 'Carrie' and 'Old Boy.' And in the works are revamps of 'RoboCop,' 'The Naked Gun' and 'Escape From New York.'

At a recent speaking engagement at the University of Denver, MGM CEO Roger Birnbaum was quite chatty about the studio’s upcoming projects — particularly its remake plans, which include a ‘Poltergeist’ reboot they’re negotiating with Sam Raimi to direct.

It appears that Steven Spielberg has new installments of two long-running franchises in the pipeline, because you never miss a good thing until it’s gone. According to the director himself, wheels are turning on both an ‘Indiana Jones V’ and ‘Jurassic Park IV.’

Lately, it seems Hollywood is happier living in the past than in the future, what with remakes of films like ‘Footloose’ and squeezing every last drop of nostalgia out of comic book superheroes. Now you can add another to the list — it’s been confirmed that ‘Dirty Dancing,’ the 1987 film that made household names of its stars Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, is getting a reboot, as well.
