Yesterday we reported that Millennium Films were already moving forward on a sequel to 'Texas Chainsaw 3D' on the heels of a successful weekend at the box office, but the rights holders haven't exactly given their blessing.

In news that comes as neither surprising nor exciting (it was hinted at a few days ago), it has been officially announced that a sequel to the successful-enough 'Texas Chainsaw 3D' has been greenlit and shooting will commence later this year. But that's not the most interesting part.

The title of the film will be 'Texas Chainsaw 4, and you're correct in thinking that title makes little sense at all.

'Texas Chainsaw 3D,' the latest edition to Tobe Hooper's 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' franchise, hit theaters recently and emerged as the top box office earner this past weekend. While some critics thought this new chapter would bomb, thereby bringing an end to the classic collection of horror movies, we thought it made for a good edition. Here's the thing about January: it's usually a wasteland. With the studios concentrating on their Oscar campaigns and the profitable summer months still half a year away, this month is where all of the crap usually gets dumped. However, this is also one of the few months where crap has a chance of performing well, hence the success of last year's 'The Devil Inside' and now 'Texas Chainsaw 3D,' which took the weekend with a strong $23 million opening.

We're still a little confused about which film 'Texas Chainsaw 3D' is a sequel to. The first film spawned three sequels, with only one helmed by the original's Toby Hooper. Then there was the Michael Bay-produced remake, and it's prequel. But this seems drawn more from the original films than the reboots, even though it's sort of labeled a third film. At the end of the day they're all basically remakes of the first film anyway. Now there's a new trailer and TV spot for the film.
