On Saturday, May the 5th, the Lawton Farmers Market will host it's 5th Annual Dog Days at the Farmers Market, 920 NW Sheridan Road from 8-Noon. The public is invited to bring their dogs to the market for a morning of shopping and four-legged fun. Dr. Catrina Black from Midtown Animal Hospital, and Dr. Holly Lunsford from Lawtonka Animal Chiropractic and Veterinary Hospital will be offering full sets of canine vaccinations plus a free heartworm screening with each set of canine shots, for $35.

Dr. Lunsford explained that “For current clients with a valid patient-client relationship with either of our clinics (i.e. exam) we also have: Bravecto (12 week acting flea and tick tablet) $50; Interceptor Plus, $6-$10 per 1 month dose depending on dog weight. We will also be offering an exam only with a heartworm test, or to purchase prevention, for $20.”

Other canine organizations will be on hand, including Clips and Dips with doggie bows, bandanas and canine cologne, Paws with Love therapy dogs, and a variety of other dog-oriented booths.

Lawton Farmers Market Doggie Bags will be given away to the first 100 people and their canine companion who bring canned or bagged dog food for donation to the local animal shelter. Only one bag per family and both owner and dog must be present.

“This is our second year to collect much needed dog food for the animal shelter,” said board member Cindy Nocton. “To receive one of our goody bags you have to make a donation to the animal shelter, whether it is a can or a bag of dog food, and you must have your dog with you at the market the day of the event.”

Dogs should be on a leash at all times at the event. “We love having our four-legged friends visit the Lawton Farmers Market, but it is important that your dog be both people and animal friendly, and be under control at all times,” said Market Manager Keith Hall.

New this year is the Paw Parade and Dog Show. At 10:00 a.m. participants are invited to parade their canine companions down the center of the market for judging in two categories, Best Dressed and Cutest. Prizes will be awarded in first and second place in each category.

Entertainment will be provided by the Cowboy Opry, plus breakfast and lunch items by Bus Stop Eats Food Truck.

The event will be held at the Lawton Farmers Market location, 920 SW Sheridan Rd., Great Plains Coliseum, in conjunction with the regular farmers market.
