The Last of Us Cast: No Word on a Sequel, Outrage over Assassin’s Creed Unity

Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson, known for their roles voicing Joel and Ellie in The Last of Us, chime in on returning for the sequel and the recent controversy about Assassin's Creed Unity.

Veteran voice actor Troy Baker told VideoGamer that he would "gladly" return to portray Joel in the sequel to The Last of Us, but has confirmed that there is nothing yet in the works when it comes to the sequel. At the same time, this doesn't necessarily mean that Naughty Dog isn't working on one; this just means that Baker has not been contacted by the studio to work on any new content yet.

When asked about the potential of a sequel, Baker said the following:

There's nothing on the horizon right now. It's to the credit of Neil and Bruce and everyone at Naughty Dog for creating a story and a world that is so rich and immersive that people want more of the story. That's a really hard thing to accomplish. To even make a game is a miracle. To have a game that can grow into something else, and not just in a franchise sense - they want to know more about the characters; they want to know more about the world; they have questions. That's a truly remarkable thing.

If we [Baker and Johnson] are fortunate for them to ask us back, I gladly would.

We previously reported that Naughty Dog's co-president, Evan Wells, said that the company is developing a major, unannounced project "on the scale of Uncharted," that does not include The Last of Us Remastered or Uncharted 4: A Thief's End.

Ashley Johnson, the voice of Ellie in The Last of Us, told VideoGamer that she was outraged for the lack of playable female characters in Assassin's Creed Unity's online co-op. She criticized Ubisoft for this and wanted to remind developers that stronger females should be included in games more often.

Johnson had this to say about the current status of how women are portrayed in games:

I'm sort of coming at this as an actress but also as a female gamer. Assassin's Creed: Unity is a great example of when I saw the gameplay and saw that [in] their multiplayer you do not have the option to play as a female. I was like, 'Give me a f------ break! It's 2014! How many video games do you have to make to realise maybe have an option to have a female be in there?' And maybe not just on PS Vita.

I don't know what the percentage is at this point but there are a lot of females that play video games and it would be nice to see stronger females in a game that are not just the damsel in distress, the love interest or she's oversexualised. She doesn't even necessarily have to be a badass. Just like a normal female character.

The Last of Us Remastered launches on July 29 exclusively for PlayStation 4.
