In the grand scheme of things, nothing beats something new in the holster for Christmas.

Looking at the trends over the last year or so, in a true 'mild to wild' list, here are the absolute must have pistols.

  • Best - Wilson Combat Pinnacle

There is absolutely nothing more American than the true perfection of a 1911. Arguably the prettiest gun ever made, even though it's over 100 years old.

On the topic of 1911's, Wilson Combat makes some of the finest money can buy. Perfectly engineered, stunning to look at, and something most people would sadly leave lying in their safe.

This is the Pinnacle. The absolute finest Supergrade Wilson Combat handgun money can buy. Built proudly in the USA.

If you have all the money in the world, this is the only thing that should be on your list.

  • Best Value - Glock 20SF

In terms we can all agree on, why in the world would you want something 'like' a Glock, when you could just buy an actual Glock?

As firearm manufacturers have been continually making their versions of the Glock over the years (Looking at you Springfield...) nobody has been able to compete with the original. Glock truly is perfection. Ugly, gnarly, perfection.

With simple lines, and legendary performance, the Glock will always have a place in our hearts.

All the same, when you bring up the Glock brand in 1911 company, you'll find the same old tired argument of calibers. 45ACP, 9mm, 40S&W, etc... All of which have earned their merits...

The 45ACP will always be the big, dumb, slow hero of 'knockdown power.' 9mm will always win the battle of modern performance slated in capacity. And 40S&W will always be the in-between that nobody but gun snobs shoot.

That being said, they've all been replaced by the one and only king of calibers - 10mm. Unfortunately, the 'Big 10' has a few subjective cons... The massive recoil will make you flinch, and the frames for this big caliber don't really fit in most shooters hands... Enter the Glock 20SF - Slim Frame.

It gives you the superior ballistic performance of the 10mm, but in a pistol as easy to hold on to as their original 45ACP G21.

Since reputable retailers don't charge Glock MSRP, let's price this at Bud's Gun Shop - $545 with free shipping to your local FFL.

  • Best Alternative - The Ruger SR22

There is no other gun maker in the world more familiar with the 22 caliber than Ruger. Simply put, they make the best.

In terms of family fun, there is no firearm better suited than the Ruger SR22. It's small, yet ergonomic. Minimal recoil in the 22lr caliber. More dependable than similar models. And affordable on any budget.

Above all else, since day one, the SR22 has had the reputation of 22 pistol perfection.

Adding to the positives, it's affordable. I think I paid just over $300 for my first one, and I'm confident the price hasn't changed that much. Of course, your options will make that price vary.

It's available in the basic configuration you see below, a long slide target model, and they make one with a threaded barrel for a little quiet suppressor fun.

MSPR for the SR22 starts around $420, but the actual price you pay at a reputable dealer will be considerably less. I might recommend you pay a visit to our local Atwoods... they do stock 'em.
