There are many organizations throughout Southwest Oklahoma dedicated to pets and pet adoptions. From shelters to foster and adoption groups, there are many different options when you are looking to add a new four-legged member to your family.

Every week Townsquare's Pet Patrol will be highlighting adoptable pets from throughout the Southwest Oklahoma area, hoping to find furr-ever homes for shelter pets from throughout the region.

This week we are highlighting animals from 8 shelters, and hope to add more as momentum builds for this project. We will also be featuring information on upcoming events at our local shelters, as well as bringing you information on upcoming fund raising activities for these organization.

Please remember to spay and neuter your pets, and of course to adopt, not shop!

This week, we want to feature Rex, full of spunk and personality, Rex is ready to find a home of his very own. This red & white Dachshund mix is about 7-8 years old and has a lot of love left to give his forever home. Like most Dachshunds, Rex loves human companions and children old enough to know how to treat a "low-rider." And, like some Dachshunds, Rex wants to be the center of attention and needs to be the only fur-kid in the family. He is not good with other dogs. With a good, consistent schedule to put the finishing touches on his house-training skills, Rex will be ready to delight and entertain you for years and years to come.

Inquiries can be made to SCHS, 580-252-7387. And ask us about a Forget me Not Friday special - regardless of what day of the week it is! Rex is healthy, vaccinated, neutered, and tested negative for heart worms. This boy is ready for his Forever Family to come find him!

We would like to introduce everyone to Lucy, a tan and white Staffordshire Terrier mix who is between 1 and 2 years old. Lucy is a big girl, and weighs in at a whopping 50 pounds of solid muscle, with the body of an oversized corgi. ❤️️Lucy was found alone in a dog house in Lawton by one of the animal control officers - emaciated and with terrible wounds on her legs that had to be stitched and stapled. That was in September of 2016.

Lucy received lots of love from the great people at the shelter, healed physically, but she is still skittish and her trust in humans needs some more restoration. She is warming up beautifully to us and all her fur foster brothers and sisters of all sizes. She LOVES car and truck rides, and rides shotgun like a human. Lucy loves her kennel and is housebroken and also enjoys just to hang out and watch TV and just to be loved on. She walks great on a leash and would be a great exercise partner. Lucy needs a relaxed environment, she loves peace and quiet.

Lucy is microchipped, spayed, up to date on shots and has a clean bill of health. The only reminder of her obviously not so happy early days are the scars on her legs. If you'd like to meet Lucy please call Mark at 580 695-0994

Really who could resist Addie's adorable face? This 5 year old German Shepherd is one smart girl. She knows commands, walks amazing, loves toys, seems somewhat housebroken, so far good with male dogs we just need to test her with female dogs.

Addie is a girl who knows how to tell you what she wants; she carries her food bowl around in the morning waiting patiently for her breakfast, and is a favorite with our dog walkers. Addie needs a knowledgeable home with a fenced yard because she loves to run and play. She is ready to find that forever home, could that home be yours?

Adoption Applications can be submitted at www.pchumane.org under Adoptable Animals tab.  Please allow 48 hours for a response during normal business hours. (Wednesday-Friday 11-6 and Saturday 10-2).  Applications can also be submitted over the phone 580-767-8877 during normal business hours.

    Rainbow Bridge Can Wait - 580 919-0439

This sweet girl is Karma, a 4 year old Shepherd blend who absolutely loves people. She is house broken and loves to play with toys. She gets along with dogs as long as they are the same size as her or larger. However, she does not appreciate smaller dogs at all. She would make a great dog for a family or a single person as long as lots of love and toys are involved.

Karma's adoption fee is $140.00. She comes with up to date age appropriate shots, dewormed, treated for fleas and ticks, and heart worm negative. She is on monthly heart worm preventative and is micro chipped. The rescue pays for activation of the chip and up to a year of monitoring. Karma also comes with 30 days of free veterinary insurance to be activated by the adopters.

If you are interested in Karma, please contact Rainbow Bridge Can Wait on Facebook or on Petfinder.  Thank you.

Rose Bud is about 11 months old and was saved about 3 month ago from getting shot. Since then she was living in a foster home and even so she was skittish at the beginning she warmed up fairly quickly. Rose Bud is good with other dogs and cats. We are not sure yet in how well she is doing with small children.

She likes pretending she is a lap dog and cuddles with you when she gets to know you better.

Rose Bud isn't a fan of the crate but can be crate trained, just not gonna happen over night. She will go to the door if she needs to go potty but she needs to learn first what door to go to in a new family.

All shelter dogs need is a second chance and a family that is patient and loves them unconditional.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Rose Bud, please send a message to our FB page Elgin Animal Shelter or send a text to (580)919-5117

Meet Lady, the smallest from the 5 puppies that where found abandoned in a field by Cement, OK. Lady is now 9 -10 week old and the last of her litter left. She received her first set of booster shots and was dewormed at the Veterinarian visit last month like her siblings. At the beginning she might be a little bit shy but not for more than 5 minutes. She loves cuddling, playing, chasing her siblings through the yard and she is doing great with potty training. She is a sweet little love bug. LADY is sleeping in a crate during the night and will let you know if she has to go potty.

If you would like to meet Lady, please send us a message on our Facebook page "ELGIN ANIMAL SHELTER" or send a text to (580)919-5117 with your name and number.
