Though he may be an Oscar-winning director, Danny Boyle isn't afraid of showing the rough stuff, as the new trailer for 'Trance' shows. In this new red band trailer, we can tell that this heist thriller isn't afraid of spilling some blood (or cutting heads half way off).

Not only do we see star James McAvoy tortured, we get the nauseating sight of Vincent Cassel in a state of facial disrepair. Meanwhile, Rosario Dawson is left alone (and looks gorgeous, natch). It's a strong trailer, but seems to play up the premise (what role did hypnosis have to do in a heist?), but also that this isn't a standard issue R-rated movie. No, this is going to have some red meat in it.

Here's the synopsis:

Simon (James McAvoy), a fine art auctioneer, teams up with a criminal gang to steal a Goya painting worth millions of dollars, but after suffering a blow to the head during the heist he awakens to discover he has no memory of where he hid the painting.  When physical threats and torture fail to produce answers, the gang’s leader Frank (Vincent Cassel) hires hypnotherapist Elizabeth Lamb (Rosario Dawson) to delve into the darkest recesses of Simon’s psyche.  As Elizabeth begins to unravel Simon’s broken subconscious, the line between truth, suggestion, and deceit begin to blur.

And here's that trailer. 'Trance' opens April 5.
