Universal Pictures Teases Possible Release Date for ‘Mass Effect’

The full-length feature set in the universe of the Asari, Geth, Krogan, Salarians and Turians now has a release date... maybe.

Universal Pictures is believed to have chosen Nov. 4, 2016 for the day the world gets to see 'Mass Effect' in theaters, based on a new report in The Hollywood Reporter. This means that the film will be debuting just two weeks prior to the debut of 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,' J.K. Rowling's 'Harry Potter' spin-off. 'Mass Effect' is being financed by both Universal and Legendary Pictures, but details on the movie have been kept under wraps.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that Universal has announced an "Untitled 2016 Event Project," which was described as being neither a sequel nor remake, but "may be based on an underlying intellectual property." This could be in reference to the 'Mass Effect' film, which is a pre-existing IP, and one that would warrant being kept under wraps until absolutely necessary. It should be noted though, release dates change all the time, particularly when movies, as is the case with 'Mass Effect,' haven't even started shooting yet.

Little is know about the 'Mass Effect' movie, which has yet to cast principal cast yet, but is indeed in production already. Morgan Davis Foehl took over scripting duties after Mark Protosevich left the project late last year. Legendary Pictures is also co-financing the upcoming 'Warcraft' film with Universal, which is expected to be coming out on March 11, 2016.
