‘White House Down’ Featurette: Roland Emmerich Revists White House-Based Mayhem
One of summer’s biggest movie question marks is ‘White House Down,’ which pairs Channing Tatum‘s would-be secret service agent with Jamie Foxx‘s President of the United States in a buddy cop-esque action film. Now there’s a new featurette that shows a little more footage from the film, and spotlights the director.
“It’s the first time I’m not blowing up the White House. I’m just doing it bit by bit.” That’s how director Roland Emmerich describes ‘White House Down’ in this new featurette, and it seems fitting as most people know him as the man behind ‘Independence Day.’ On display here are the actors and filmmakers expressing how good Emmerich is at both action and working with actors. Of course, we all know that no featurette in the course of cinema has ever lied about that.
But what is interesting is that more of the film’s supporting players are on display. We didn’t know James Woods was in the movie, nor ‘Zero Dark Thirty‘s Jason Clarke, and both get to talk about the film. It’s good to see that Emmerich’s bench is reasonably deep. ‘White House Down’ opens June 28. Here’s the film’s synopsis:
Capitol Policeman John Cale (Channing Tatum) has just been denied his dream job with the Secret Service of protecting President James Sawyer (Jamie Foxx). Not wanting to let down his little girl with the news, he takes her on a tour of the White House, when the complex is overtaken by a heavily armed paramilitary group. Now, with the nation’s government falling into chaos and time running out, it’s up to Cale to save the president, his daughter, and the country
