In this episode of You Think You Know Metal? we delve into the entire genre of hair metal. A force that would prove to dominate the '80s mainstream, hair metal bands such as Poison, Twisted Sister and Motley Crue ruled the airwaves, and we're about to take you back in time to relive one of music's most infamous genres.

We begin this episode with a look into The Decline of Western Civilization Part II, which became legendary thanks to Ozzy Osbourne missing his glass when attempting to pour orange juice and W.A.S.P.'s Chris Holmes dousing himself in vodka while relaxing in a pool. However, these scenes aren't as truthful as one may assume.

One of hair metal's most famous feuds was between Twisted Sister and Manowar. After Manowar attacked Twisted Sister by calling them "sissy boys in makeup," the "We're Not Gonna Take It" legends challenged Manowar to a street fight. Guess who never showed up? Guns N' Roses and Poison also threw their fair share of mud at each other, stemming from an unsuccessful Poison audition from future guitar legend Slash.

Did you know that Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar on Me" almost didn't make the band's 1987 Hysteria album? The group wrote the track in the 11th hour of recording, but the extra time obviously paid off. Also, do you know the story of how Great White got its band name? You'll find out in the clip above.
