Trees offer more value than just shade on hot summer days in Oklahoma. Planting trees in Oklahoma offer multiple benefits, including environmental and economic benefits. So getting a tree for free from Naturescape this weekend will come with multiple added benefits!

For the environment, trees improve air quality, management for stormwater, prevent soil erosion, provides shelter for wildlife and help regulate the climate.

Planting trees in your yard also offer economic benefits by increasing property value and reducing energy costs by providing shade.

Oklahoma is home to several native trees.

Naturescape has not confirmed what kind of tree they will be giving out this weekend, but it could definitely be one several native Oklahoma trees! Oklahoma has a diverse range of native trees. The state tree is the Eastern Redbud, but other notable native trees include Blackjack, Shumard, White Oak, Shagbark, Black Hickory, Silver Maple, Red Maple, Shortleaf and Scots.

Oklahoma's Beneficial Insects

Not all insects are pests! There are some insects that are beneficial to you and your garden. In a study by the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service on beneficial insects, "most insects found in yards, gardens or crops do not feed on or harm plants. Many are just 'passing through' or have very innocuous habits. Others feed on and destroy pest species. In many cases, the activities of these beneficial species can prevent or greatly limit pest problems."
