One of the great things about Lawton is that the community embraces all the cultures that call Lawton home! And each year the community comes together to celebrate these cultures at the annual International Festival. This year is the 46th annual International Festival and will take place Sept. 26-28 at Elmer Thomas Park. And to advertise for the festival, the International Festival Committee has announced that it has chosen the artwork for this year's poster competition.

This year's poster competition winner is Claire Trachte, who is a freshman at Eisenhower High School. Trachte recently graduated 8th grade from the Lawton Academy of Arts and Sciences. Trachte's winning poster artwork features a buffalo prominently placed amongst the Oklahoma state emblem, a scissortail flycatcher, and a parade of people supporting flags of different nations, including the United States, Mexico, the Philippines and the Comanche Nation.

Trachte's design will be featured on promotional materials for the 46th annual International Festival, including posters and t-shirts. These items featuring Trachte's work will also be for sale during the International Festival this year at the Holiday House in Elmer Thomas Park.

The 46th International Festival is seeking volunteer performers.

The annual International Festival celebrates cultures with food and entertainment. The 46th International Festival is currently seeing volunteer performers for this year's festival. Performances typically take place throughout each day of the festival on two different stages.

The volunteer performer applications are currently available online and must be submitted to the City of Lawton's Arts and Humanities Division office by Friday, July 25.
