Oklahoma residents are counting down the days until they can get their pools open for summer - I know I am! To help residents get ready for summer, the Farmers' Almanac has released its predictions for summer this year, and Oklahoma could be "sizzling and showery."

Summer doesn't officially start till June 20 this year, but Oklahomans associate the beginning of summer with Memorial Day weekend. School is out by then. Pools are opening. It's sweet summertime in Oklahoma.

But according to the Farmers' Almanac, when summer officially starts with the summer solstice on Friday, June 20, most of the country will be experiencing "unsettled to stormy conditions." But by the time July comes, most of the country will be experiencing above to high-above average temperatures. The Farmers' Almanac is expecting "more long-time high temperature records" to be broken this year.

Oklahoma may be wetter than usual this summer.

The Farmers' Almanac is expecting the Southern Plains, which includes Oklahoma, to be wetter than usual this summer. So Oklahomans will definitely want to take advantage of those sunny pool days because there may be few!

This summer, Oklahoma could see frequent rain showers and thunderstorms. Oklahomans know that the state can have severe thunderstorms and tornadoes year round. But over the last few years, there have been some intense storms during the summer. Like the massive hail storm and severe weather event that impacted southwest Oklahoma, on June 15 in 2023. And in that same year, Oklahoma saw 18 tornadoes in June.

Tornadoes are possible in Oklahoma on Fourth of July this year.

The Farmers' Almanac is also expecting Oklahoma to have severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes on the Fourth of July. Usually the Fourth of July is boiling hot and sunny in Oklahoma! But there have been a few Independence Days in the past where it has been stormy and rainy. So, as usual, Oklahomans will want to remain weather aware as they make their Fourth of July plans!
