Oklahoma Could See Snow and Single-Digit Wind Chills Next Week

It wouldn't be a true Thanksgiving in Oklahoma if the weather didn't do a hard shift from fall to winter. Oklahomans have known many Thanksgivings that were bitterly cold and some filled with snow or ice. And in between there are a few Thanksgivings that had classic fall weather, while others were too warm for even a sweater.

But according to local meteorologists, it's looking like this Thanksgiving may be more of a winter holiday instead of fall. A bitter cold front is expected to enter Oklahoma the middle of next week that could bring temperatures down to below-average on Thanksgiving.

It's still too far out to know what the weather will exactly be like in Oklahoma on Thanksgiving this year, which is set to take place Thursday, Nov. 28. But local meteorologists are starting to make bold winter predictions for the week before Thanksgiving. So if Oklahomans are planning on any traveling the week before Thanksgiving, they'll want to keep a close eye on the forecast.

Wind, single-digit wind chills and snow all possible for Oklahoma next week.

This week KFOR Chief Meteorologist Mike Morgan started posting on his official Facebook page that Oklahoma could see a winter event Nov. 20-21. On Monday, Nov. 11, he indicated that Oklahoma could receive its first widespread killing freeze event on Thursday, Nov. 21. And after that, an Arctic Air may enter Oklahoma on Nov. 24.

Later in the day on Monday, Nov. 11, Morgan posted that Oklahoma City could receive its first snowfall of the season from Nov. 20-22. He also alluded to a "cold blast."

On Tuesday, Nov. 12, Morgan provided another update stating that around Nov. 20 and 21, Oklahoma could see single-digit wind chills, over 40 miles per hour winds and the possibility of sideways snow. He stated, "it's sure possible."
