We change our clocks for daylight savings times, change the tires on our car to prepare for that summer time heat in Oklahoma, but I never knew we were supposed to be changing the direction of our ceiling fans!

Meteorologist Jeff Castle shared helpful tips for folks to save some money on electricity this summer by switching their ceiling fans from spinning clockwise to counterclockwise. Despite how insignificant of a change this may be, Castle explains that the difference can affect more than just your wallet.

"Here's a reminder about switching the direction your ceiling fans spin to give a slight 'wind chill' effect so that you don't have to set your thermostat as low to stay cool," he said. When the blades are spinning clockwise, the wind is pushing directly downward, creating that breeze we all need when it starts to heat up.

I was today years old when I found out there was a reversal switch on ceiling fans.

We've all been up there to change the lightbulbs, dust the blades - heck, some of us are reckless enough to tie water bottles to them for the blind water bottle challenge. Somehow, most people have missed that tiny little reversing switch that's usually on the light fixture or the motor of the fan.

Like all good things, the modern versions are better. Newer ceiling fans come with the reversal switch, but older models may not. That's when the real work begins - you'll have to reverse the blades manually. Before you start taking things apart, consult your owners manual for the actual instructions on your specific fan model.

Or, if you're like every other normal American who never keeps the manual, you can always YouTube it. Just take a look at the fan housing for specific brand name and model information.

Don't let the heat creep up on you and steal your dollars when the summer gets here. After you've rebuilt your home or drained the new pond out of your yard thanks to the recent floods, it's important to get your house summer ready. Take a look below at more hacks to save money on electricity.

Do Not Leave These Things in Your Hot Car in Oklahoma

While you would expect most of this to be common sense and general knowledge, you'd be amazed how many people found out the hard way there are some things you should never leave in a hot vehicle. Since we're knee-deep into another hot Oklahoma summer, it's worth mentioning to those who don't know.
