Local Lowe’s Giving Free Buckets To Lawton’s Flood Victims, More Giving On The Way
Some folks in Lawton, Oklahoma are still trying to catch up repairs from the latest rain and flooding from April. The local home improvement store, Lowe's, has come up with their own solution to help those affected by the flood waters. Until supplies run out, Lowe's is giving out free buckets to flood victims in Lawton, one per household.
Assistant Store Manager, John Michael, told us that they've already given away the first 280 buckets, now they've got another set of 280 to pass out to the rest of the Lawton community. The idea stems from the community-driven mentality that the Lowe's team has, Michael said.
"We always want to give back to the community," he said.
Their love for the Lawton community doesn't just stop at giving away buckets. According to Michael, Lowe's in Lawton is planning on giving $2,500 worth of supplies to the local Fire Department.
"Chainsaws, ratchet straps, rope, chain - whatever they need to get anything that they need at their stations taken care of," he said.
That's only one of several ways Michael says they've been able to help the Lawton community after the recent flooding.

Michael explained that most folks who experienced the floods were having much of the same issues. He noted that "although not everyone was coming in asking for assistance, we did notice that a lot of people were needing to replace flooring and trim work." If folks are unsure, Michael mentioned that Lowe's staff are prepared to help take a closer look at damage to find the best course of action for repairs.
Lowe's now keeps large amounts of sand & sandbags to better prepare for future flooding.
Lowe's has already learned a valuable lesson on how some folks can better prepare for flooding in the future. They went ahead and prepared a semi-load of sand for those who may want to fill their own sand bags. Or, another option is to purchase prepped sandbags ready to be used; all Lawtonians have to do is walk up to the register and let staff know what they need.
You can get a free bucket from John Michael at the local Lowe's store at 4402 NW Cache Rd, Lawton, OK until supplies run out.
Although this week is expected to be quiet and dry, the rainy season isn't over and some areas are still continuing to have rising water. It's better to prepare now while we all have a moment to dry off.
