Usually when we see the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, hearts stop not always for a good reason. But this time, when people saw Trooper Sonny Scott #783 in Durant, they could all agree it was definitely for something they could get behind. He, along with 841 different agencies, made some dreams come true.

12-year-old Devarjaye "D.J." Daniel had a dream to be sworn in by 100 agencies, hoping one day to be a real officer.

Unfortunately, D.J. had been fighting a battle with terminal brain and spine cancer since he was 8 years old; after 13 surgeries, D.J's family decided to make the life that he has one worth while.

So, they set out to not just chase D.J's dream, but spread awareness about children fighting the same battles with cancer.

According to ktalnews.com, he's been sworn in by officers in Texas, Arizona, Louisiana, California and now Oklahoma.

Oklahoma State Troopers are planning a more official ceremony for D.J. in the near future.

If you're in Oklahoma, you may know all too well just how much cancer affects the people in this state. In fact, cancer is one of the top reasons for deaths in Oklahoma.

Thankfully, many of the giving people in this state realize how much cancer patients need help, both emotionally and financially.

There are quite a few organizations dedicated to helping those with cancer, here are just a few notable ones from the most populated communities in Oklahoma.

  1. Oklahoma City - Tenaciously Teal
  2. Tulsa - Pink Sister
  3. Lawton - American Red Cross
  4. Stillwater - Stillwater Medical Foundation
  5. Enid - Cherokee Strip Community Foundation
  6. Midwest City - TeamKylier4ever (specifically helping against childhood cancer)
  7. Ardmore - Mercy Health Foundation
  8. Bartlesville - Hopestone Cancer Support Center of Bartlesville

These are just a handful of the numerous organizations in Oklahoma that continuously give to cancer patients throughout the state. It never hurts to give a little back to them, or help a cancer patient fulfill their dreams the way Oklahoma's troopers did.

We understand it's a sensitive subject, but if you have a family member who has survived cancer, we would love to highlight them. Simply message us through the app, linked below, or even send us a photo through the app.

Where Familiar Oklahoma Sayings Came From

We've all heard these super-common sayings growing up in Oklahoma. They're so common, they're not just Sooner State phrases, but this is where we heard them so often as youths. It's almost funny to learn some of the more seedy origins of phrases our ultra-conservative grandparents used to say. They'd likely turn over in their graves learning some of these meanings.
