Well, 2025 hasn't started the way we all expected. And the recent news of Ted's Escondido in Lawton closing isn't helping set a good outlook for how this year may pan out for Oklahoma.

Earlier today news began spreading on social media, specifically on local Lawton Facebook groups, that Ted's in Lawton was permanently closed. On Monday afternoon, the Lawton location's Facebook page was found to have been removed. The Lawton location was removed from official Ted's website, and Google has the Lawton location listed as permanently closed.

The closure of Lawton's Ted's location was unexpected by the community and staff.

The news came as a bit of a shock to everyone. Residents were unaware of the restaurants closure prior to. And people who worked at the location said on social media that this was coming. From what we know, Ted's has not made a statement to the community about planning to close. As of 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 6, there has been no public announcement regarding the closure.

Former staff posted to social media about the closure of Ted's in Lawton.

The announcement was initially posted to the Lawton Grapevine public Facebook group by former staff and most of the reactions from the public were ones of shock of the immediate closure and others were disappointed to hear of another local business closing.

Regardless of how they felt about the restaurant's performance, most people were still disappointed in seeing another business close its doors. Some of the Facebook comments were as follows. The comments have been edited for clarity.

"Who cares if Ted's was good or not. It's always sad when a business closes. Lawton really [doesn't] support it's businesses. Individuals lost [their] jobs and now have to look for new ones."

"Lawton is slowly shutting down as a town. There are empty buildings everywhere! The city government definitely needs an overhaul. Things are not right in Lawton!"

And based on commentary on social media from former staff, the closure was a surprise to them as well. We reached out to one of the former staff via social media to get more information regarding the closure. The former staff member has asked that their identity be withheld. The former staff member we spoke to stated that they were not notified about the closure until today, Monday, Jan. 6.

"I worked there... they told us we had a meeting this [morning] at 9 and told us," they said.

We reached out to Ted's Escondido corporate office for a comment and have yet to receive a response.
