Recent Viral Video Highlights Bullying & Oklahoma Has One Of The Worst Cases
Recently, a viral video concerning a teacher confronting bullies in has started circulating social media. Despite the fact that many believe the video was scripted, the message still resounds to Oklahomans strongly. Oklahoma, in fact, is one of the states with the worst cases of bullying in our public schools, ranking 9th in the nation.
While the person filming the scene stays silent, the teacher is letting the rest of the class have it. According to comments, the student she is defending wore a piece of clothing that had political affiliation, which apparently upset the students surrounding them.
Rather than allowing the bullying to continue, the instructor chastized the other students for their behavior, telling them they "need to go home and think about this stuff." Then, she decides to have the students write a 10 page paper on bullying. Lastly, she comforts the student who was being bullied and encourages him to put back on the clothing he wanted to wear originally without judgement.

Viral video of teacher may have been scripted, but the message is still clear.
Several of the commentors point out that, more than likely, the video was a skit performed by actors. One of the biggest red flags to support this theory is the fact that there is another video of the same teacher seemingly harassing the same student for wearing the clothing. There is also another video with the same "teacher" acting as a student caught bullying the "victim" in the original video, included below.

Despite the fact that video may be scripted, hundreds of people, including Oklahoma parents, appreciate the thought provoking effect that the video had on people in the country. Bullying in Oklahoma schools is somewhat of a sore subject, considering many families in the state have all been affected by bullying in some way and likely lost a family member due to the issue.
Oklahoma ranks in the top ten with one of the worst bullying issues in the country.
As of 2023, Oklahoma ranked 9th in the country for the worst bullying in public schools in the United States. According to a study done by WalletHub, Oklahoma scored incredibly high on Bullying impact and Treatment but one of the lowest on the list for laws against bullying.
According to the study, several students admitting to missing school due to fear of bullying, feeling sad or depressed, or attempting suicide due to bullying. Despite the fact that some schools may have counselors and therapists to help students when they need it, Oklahoma scored one of the lowest for anti-bullying laws, with 11 out of 25.
In other reports, students all over the state have likely experienced loss or trauma at young ages because of the bullying problem in schools. In Oklahoma, one of the most recent heartbreaking cases involved 12-year-old Eli, who took his life in February this year because of bullying.
Message from the scripted video that can hopefully lead Oklahoma off the bullying track.
In my opinion, one of the major reasons students feel the need to bully is due to a lack of acceptance of things that are different. And many of the commentors in the viral video agree with the sentiment.
There's an appropriate reaction to every action and in some ways, students have not learned what those reactions should be. Students should be taught that, even if they cannot agree on politics or ways of life, there should be a boundary of how far you can and should take things.
All of these things start at home with the family and parents leading the way to the right path of how to be a better person. Laws and programs may give teachers and staff more ability to reprimand bullies, or control the situation; but, parents need to be the ones who work to change their child for the better.
