Oklahoma City Baseball Team Changes Name to Honor New York Yankee
A minor league baseball team has announced a team name change that has many wondering what it has to do with Oklahoma City.
The Oklahoma City Baseball Team is No More
Last year, the Oklahoma City Dodgers the triple A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers announced they would no longer be the Dodgers. Simply going as the Oklahoma City Baseball Team for one season. With the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series right now, their Oklahoma City minor league affiliate decided to announce their new team name...which honors a New York Yankee?
Introducing the Oklahoma City Comets
Over the weekend, the team announced their new name as the Comets. Which lead many wondering how they came up with the name. The name draws inspiration from Micky Mantle who grew up in Spavinaw, Oklahoma and grew up in Commerce, Oklahoma becoming known as the “Commerce Comet” during his legendary career. Micky Mantle helped the New York Yankees win seven world series during his career.
Shooting Ball Dodgers Logo Also Inspiration
The Oklahoma City Comets also say the Dodgers logo was also an inspiration for the team name. The ball shooting off sort of looks like a comet. I am sure this plan for announcing the new team name has been booked for months now. HOWEVER, not sure if it's the best look to have the Los Angles Dodgers own minor league franchise announce they're honoring a New York Yankee. While playing the New York Yankees in the World Series.
