Normally, being drunk and tired impairs your motor skills (no driving in either case, please) and causes you to make questionable decisions (beer goggle hook ups or passing out in the middle of a Wendy’s) but boozing it up and skipping sleep can also boost your creativity. No joke.
Dave Grohl has fashioned a documentary about the famed Sound City Studios – Nirvana‘s ‘Nevermind’ and Fleetwood Mac‘s ‘Rumors’ are part of the studio’s repertoire, to name few. A super short and not-very-informative but utterly evocative trailer has been released. It’s more of a teaser than anything.
The previously unreleased video for Stone Temple Pilots‘ song ‘Cinnamon’ has found its way online. There was an original version filmed in summer 2010, but the band wasn’t feeling the result so the video was scrapped and it was reshot in late 2010 with new director. The song was the third single off 2010′s self-titled affair.
Trent Reznor, the mastermind behind the How to Destroy Angels project, which also features his wife Mariqueen Maandig, issued a short and simple tweet about the status of the band’s upcoming effort. It’s good news, since it means because more progress is being made and we’re closer to hearing the finished product.
Slayer are offering a thoroughly metallic twist on those popular Valentine’s Day treats known as “conversation hearts” as only Kerry King and co. can. You know ‘em – those pink, white and yellow hard candies with phrases like ‘Be Mine’ or ‘Kiss Me’ etched on them. Well, the Slayer version of said candies are black and red and they come in a jar stamped with the red red Slayer logo. But that’s not even the coolest part. The Slayer hearts boast phrases like ‘Hate,’ ‘Kill’ and ‘Destoy.’ There are even ones with the band’s name imprinted on them. Happy Valentine’s Day indeed.
Latin metal warriors Ill Nino will hit the studio to work on their sixth album next month. The band, which released ‘Dead New World’ via Victory Records in 2010, plans to release the as-yet untitled platter this summer. It is Ill Nino’s second effort for Victory after a long stint at Roadrunner and one album via the now-defunct Cement Shoes. This time out, Ill Nino are making a concerted effort to even further explore their Latin roots.
Ready for riffs gnashing against synths? Well, you’re going to get some, thanks to long-running cyber metal crew Fear Factory. The band, which has swapped out its lineup quite dramatically in the past several years, with guitarist Dino Cazares returning to the fold only to see rhythm section comprised of Christian Olde-Wolbers and Raymond Herrera leave the nest, has finished tracking its latest album, titled ‘The Industrialist.’ Now, it’s on to the mixing phase, per a tweet issued by Cazares.
Slash has released a new webisode documenting the recording of his upcoming solo effort set to drop on May 22. In this revealing clip, which clocks in at just under three minutes, it is revealed that the guitar deity is diligent about practicing even though he is pretty much a universally revered player at this point in his long and impressive career. That fact should serve as a lesson for aspiring guitarists — you’re never too old or too good to practice.
If Lamb of God vocalist (and pseudo presidential candidate) Randy Blythe is one of your favorite metal singers/screamers and you happen to be an iPhone app enthusiast, then we have good news for you. The ‘Vox of God’ iPhone app is now available. It’s a voice modulating iOS app designed and developed specifically for the band to support the crushing new album ‘Resolution.’
Famed fashion photographer Terry Richardson showed some mercy on former actress (because, really, when was the last time she was in anything?) Lindsay Lohan by taking shots of her at L.A.’s famed Chateau Marmont. Call it a mercy shoot, because that’s what the results indicate.
