Their last studio album, ‘El Camino,’ is less than a year old, and they’ve been on the road more or less constantly since it came out, but the Black Keys don’t sound like they’re in any hurry to take time off.

The garage-rocking duo released a live-in-the-studio EP, titled ‘Tour Rehearsal Tapes,’ via iTunes yesterday (Oct. 9), with a rollout to other stores planned in two weeks. Consisting of six live performances recorded while the band was warming up for its ‘El Camino’ tour, ‘Rehearsal Tapes’ arrives just as the Black Keys’ label, Nonesuch Records, announces a platinum certification — marking one million copies sold — for ‘El Camino.’

Looking ahead, drummer Patrick Carney says he and guitarist/vocalist Dan Auerbach will reconvene in the studio to record some new material early next year. “We’re going to start making a new album in January and we’re going to tour a little more in the spring,” Carney revealed during a recent interview with CBS. “Our plan is the have the new album done by the end of spring or earlier, then hopefully take a few months off to do normal things like go to bed early and wake up early, walk the dog, that kind of stuff. Then we’ll probably be back on the road starting next fall.”

Carney says he and Auerbach would like to re-hire their favorite producer, Danger Mouse, but it depends on his schedule. “If we ever work with a producer, it’s always going to be him,” Carney explained. “We’ve been working with him since 2007, since ‘Attack & Release,’ and we’re all really good friends. But he’s also really busy, producing so many records lately, so hopefully he has time. He’s producing U2′s record — that takes priority over us.”
