When Michael "Moose" Thomas officially announced he would be leaving Bullet for My Valentine, it left the drum seat vacant for the first time in the band's career. Jason Bowld has since landed the gig, but his career could have taken a much different — and nameless — path as he was once asked to join Ghost.

“At the end of 2016, I got asked to join another band, which I didn’t want to do—a band called Ghost. It just didn’t feel right," the drummer told AltPress recently at the Download Festival in the United Kingdom. His bandmate, frontman Matt Tuck, quipped, “Sorry, Jase, I think you dropped that name there!”

He went on to explain that he received the offer to join Ghost and Bullet for My Valentine in the same week. Bowld already had some experience within Bullet for My Valentine's ranks when he was used as a session drummer in 2010. "Then Matt called me at the end of 2015. A week turned into a month, a month turned into three months and here I am," the skinsman added. "It feels like a natural progression. Shit happens in bands all the time, and you just have to move on with it. I’m the new drummer and loving it, quite frankly.”

Bowld and Tuck had also worked together in the group AxeWound, also featuring Liam Cormier of Cancer Bats. Tuck went on to praise his drummer, exclaiming, “You can throw anything at him and he’ll do it. His skill set is unlike any musician I’ve ever worked with. He’s a world-class drummer.”

Bowld made his first studio appearance with Bullet for My Valentine on their new album, Gravity, which is set for a June 29 release. The band will hit the U.S. for a headlining tour in the fall; see their tour dates here.
