Between the Weather Channel and the countless news networks, sensationalism takes the forefront, and it seems to kill any true compassion for those affected by Hurricane Harvey.

Sure, there are thousands of media personnel along the Texas coast right now. Some running cameras, others are the talking head. As this hurricane continues to destroy, it seems everyone is jockeying for that 'top story' that'll get national exposure. It's a cutthroat competition.

It's best seen in the clip below. In the midst of a high-water rescue, these people that are trying to get to safety are stopped by a broadcaster looking for a soundbite. To talk politics in the middle of this historic weather event. Doesn't matter what news agency it is, they're all the same. It lacks any sense of compassion.

All the same, these same soulless broadcasters are supposed to be objective in their delivery. Giving the facts of the day and mixing in no emotion with it. But as the newscasts have gone to a 24-7 format, they have to fill the time with something. So they try day in, day out to convince the public that they do care. Often 'selling' their feelings a little too far (like when Stephanie Abrams cried during the eclipse, or when Rachel Maddow cried during the election)

It seems that in their attempt to be human, they dehumanize the very thing they choose to sensationalize in the rags they write for. Instead of being focused on the water levels of some highway, these wannabe journalists might put down a camera and pitch in where they can. Be it prepping meals, spreading blankets, staying out of the way of those actually trying to help the situation... Time better spent doing something constructive during the catastrophe, then reporting what happened sometime afterwards.
