Machine Head are making progress on their new record and would like to share some new music sooner than later. As such, they’re giving fans a glimpse inside the studio in what will be a series of production blog videos and arranging for a special Record Store Day release.
The band has been holed up at the JingleTown Recording studios in Oakland, Calif., and while frontman Robb Flynn has been good about keeping fans updated on their progress via his “General’s Journals,” he’s decided to give their followers a more visceral experience with a series of videos on the production of the album. Flynn admits that the videos are more on the technical side, but do give viewers a better understanding of the recording process. The first video can be seen above.
Fans can also look for the band’s first new music from the disc coming next month as the song ‘Killers & Kings’ has been chosen to headline their Record Store Day offering. The 10-inch vinyl features a demo version of the song on the A-Side, while the band has chosen to cover Ignite’s ‘Our Darkest Days’ and ‘Bleeding’ on the B-Side.
Speaking about his love of demos, Flynn stated, “I remember growing up in the thrash scene and always wanting to hear the demo version of songs. You searched them out. Thankfully my buddy Jim was a big ‘tape trader,’ and through trading we had both Metallica demos, Exodus demos, bootlegs of songs sometimes ‘years’ before they came out. I knew how to play every note of ‘Pleasure of the Flesh’ by Exodus, easily 2 years before the record was out! My friends and I would debate the merits of each, but we all agreed, It was so much cooler to hear it BEFORE the album is out! So we’re gonna do that for you. I can’t wait for you guys to hear this stuff.”
The limited edition single will feature four alternate covers, as can be seen below. Each single is limited to 1,000 copies.
Look for Machine Head’s ‘Killers & Kings’ 10-inch single, available April 19 at participating Record Store Day stores. And keep an eye out for more coming from Machine Head later this year.
