Someone Actually Invented A Legit Car Grappling Tool For Chases

Just days after the OHP put an quick stop to a week long chase, this inventive product popped up in my news feed. Selling on the premise of being safer, it actually looks like a pretty promising device to end those pesky pursuits.

It's called the Grappler Police Bumper, and it looks exactly how that sounds. It's an extendable bumper attachment that allows a driver to wrap up the rear wheel of any car it chooses. A tug-of-war ensues, and given the sheer weight of most PD cruisers, the chase is supposed to end there.

What's brilliant is it limits the liability of historical procedures. I'm sure you've heard of the PIT maneuver, where one car pushes the other out of control... It's effective, but can come at quite a cost to bystanders and property. This grappling device is different, allowing more control and a little more safety as the straps work much like a pair of chainsaw chaps.

Of course, the way OHP dealt with Michael Vance is fine by me... It's just another look to what the future could hold for us all.
