Stone Temple Pilots Take Stage at Canada Gig After 2-Hour Wait, Cancel Next Night’s Show

Stone Temple Pilots fans in Abbotsford, British Columbia, last night (Sept. 17) had to exercise an extreme amount of patience in order to see the band play live as the rockers finally took to the stage two hours after the opening band without any explanation to ticket-holders regarding their tardiness.

According to fan reports, the opening act went on promptly at 8:30 and then concertgoers were left in suspense for over two hours waiting for STP to make an appearance. Seemingly taking a page out of the handbook of the notoriously late Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose, STP finally showed up close to 11PM, after many people had already left the building.

Fans took to social networking and music websites to voice their complaints and reactions that ranged everywhere from demanding refunds to fans defending the band. One fan complained, “We were worried there would be a riot! WTF That is so disrespectful – people paid good money to come and see them and spent time getting there, and they completely disregarded that fact.” Another fan suggested that the entire band wasn’t at fault, just one particular member, saying, “You can bet your life savings this event wasn’t The Pilots’ fault. It was Scott Weiland’s fault. Robert, Dean and Eric are completely different kinds of people from the negative qualities Scott displays (showing up late much of the time, being one). I would bet anything I had this escapade was Scott’s fault alone.”

With no official reason for the delay cited by the venue or the band, all fans can do is speculate.

Update: A new article on claims that STP were spotted playing paintball just hours before the show. No word on whether this had an effect on the band’s tardiness.

Meanwhile, Stone Temple Pilots’ show scheduled for tonight (Sept. 18) in Lethbridge, Alberta, has been canceled, according to the venue’s website. In a statement, the band cites Weiland’s strained vocal cords as the reason behind the cancellation.

The band’s next scheduled show is Sept. 22 in Irvine, Calif.
