We know (at least we hope) The Walking Dead will follow through on its promise to kill off a significant character in the Season 7 premiere, so why not promote four more? Yes, AMC’s flagship horror drama has now upped its count to 20 series regulars for Season 7, upgrading four Season 6 additions to main cast members.

It’s no secret that The Walking Dead had its work cut out to keep its big Season 6 death under wraps, awkwardly positioning the cliffhanger as something spoiler-hounds could easily sniff out in Season 7 production. We’d heard of at least some precautions taken to keep the victim a secret, but it seems The Walking Dead is sparing no expense, shooting death scenes for every single character involved.

Apart from the obvious, one of the bigger questions raised by The Walking Dead Season 6 finale’s mystery killing lay in how Season 7 filming would keep said identity under wraps, given the rabid on-set spying that already gave away several Season 6 twists. A new comment from executive producer Greg Nicotero might offer a window into that added security, but how fool-proof is it?
