Warner Bros. Has Nine Other DC Comics Movies in Development Aside From ‘Justice League’

In a move that surprised no one (or, let us rephrase, should have surprised no one), Warner Bros. formally announced that ‘Man of Steel’ director Zack Snyder will be helming the long-awaited ‘Justice League‘ movie after he’s finished with ‘Batman vs. Superman.’ With his Superman sequel set for release on May 6, 2016, the premiere date for this DC superhero team-up is projected for around 2018, and the studio has more it wants to accomplish before then.

The Wall Street Journal, which initially confirmed the announcement of Snyder’s ‘Justice League’ involvement, recently dove deeper into Warner Bros.’ upcoming slate and revealed that, aside from the ‘League,’ nine other movies based on DC properties are currently in development, though details are mostly unknown.

Last we heard on the matter, a ‘Sandman‘ movie with Nikolaj Arcel attached as director and Joseph Gordon-Levitt producing and possibly starring has officially been acknowledged, while WB reps also mentioned ‘Shazam,’ ‘Metal Men,’ ’100 Bullets’ and ‘Fables.’ Other rumored titles circulating prior to the announcement included ‘Suicide Squad,’ ‘Team 7,’ ‘Deathstroke’ and ‘Booster Gold,’ all said to be included as part of a series of lower-budgeted comic book films to be released approximately two a year. The Suicide Squad already made its debut in live-action on The CW’s ‘Arrow,’ though screenwriter Justin Marks had already drafted a feature-film version for WB back in the day.

Although solo movies for currently cast characters are also likely — Gal Gadot, for example, is locked into a multiple-film contract to portray Wonder Woman — WB is apparently still lukewarm on the idea, at least in regards to the Amazonian princess. Though, there’s also the further-developing DC TV series, which so far include the likes of ‘Arrow,’ ‘The Flash,’ ‘Constantine‘ and ‘Gotham.’

‘Batman vs. Superman’ and presumably ‘Justice League’ will star Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, and Ray Fisher as Cyborg. Jesse Eisenberg‘s Lex Luthor, Amy Adams‘ Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne‘s Perry White, and Diane Lane‘s Mrs. Kent will also appear in at least the former.
