Hey boys and girls! It’s almost that time of year again. Yep. The lazy, scorching hot, lingering days of summer. When all educational requirements go out the window and downright laziness sets in. Freedom so close, you can almost taste it! But what are you planning on doing this summer?
St. Patrick was a priest who spent his life converting the Irish to Christianity. He used the three-leafed shamrock to describe the theory of the Trinity – the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Legend says he put the curse of God on all the venomous snakes in Ireland and led them to the water where they drowned.
Mardi Gras, aka “Fat Tuesday,” originated from Christianity in Europe and marked the day before Lent.
Catholics used to celebrate Carnival about a week prior to Lent, consuming all the milk, cheese, eggs and meat in their homes. Fat Tuesday was the last day they could splurge before the abstinence began at midnight. Once Ash Wednesday hit, they would only eat fish and fast during the 40 days leading up to Easter Sunday.
