ESRB Rates Fruit Ninja Kinect 2 for an Xbox One Release

Better stretch those arm muscles, because Fruit Ninja is making the jump to next-gen with a sequel.

Joystiq reports that the ESRB has issued a content rating for Fruit Ninja Kinect 2, revealing that the still yet-to-be-announced sequel is heading to the Xbox One.

The existence of the inevitable sequel to 2010’s produce destruction sim was confirmed last month by an Australian Classification Board rating, which judged the game to be appropriate for all audiences. The original Fruit Ninja was hugely successful, appearing on nine different platforms and selling over 300 million copies. 16 months after Fruit Ninja’s initial release on Apple devices, it was ported to the Xbox 360 under the name Fruit Ninja Kinect, earning the game and its developer, Halfbrick Studios, even more exposure, revenue and acclaim.

Neither Microsoft nor Halfbrick have made any statements regarding a sequel to one of the most successful Kinect-based Xbox 360 games ever made, but with a pair of classifications already confirmed, its eventual announcement appears to be a sure thing.

Here is the ESRB rating summary, for those worried about the game’s graphic depictions of bisection and dismemberment….of pineapples:

“This is an action game in which players slice flying pieces of fruit in a whimsical setting. Players swipe to cut pieces of fruit while avoiding smoke bombs that briefly cloud the screen. On-screen text sometimes includes references to alcohol (e.g., “In Eastern Africa you can buy banana beer”; “Lemonade was originally lemon and honey wine”; “Dragon fruit can also be made into wine . . .”).”

Stay tuned as we will continue to provide up-to-date coverage on Fruit Ninja Kinect 2 once more information is available.
