Last week, news got out that Netflix and Nintendo were coming together to create a live-action Legend of Zelda TV series. After getting over the "this could be awesome/awful" my mind began to wonder where and when the series could fit on the Zelda timeline.

There a few approaches to this and Netflix/Nintendo could go in either direction. Here are some of my predictions to where the live-action series could take place and how it could fit into the timeline.

A few details for those new to Legend of Zelda. First, each Link is a new incarnation  of Link unless otherwise specified. Example: Link from 'Ocarina of Time' and 'Majora's Mask' are the same. Link from 'Wind Waker' and 'Spirit Tracks,' although similar designs are two different people. Each incarnation of Link has a different title. Examples are Hero of Hyrule, Hero of The Skies and Hero of Time. The series has an Origin timeline which is later split in three different lines; Adult Timeline, Child Timeline and Decline Timeline. It is worth mentioning however, that the Decline Timeline is possibly another universe.

Keep in mind, this article is simply pure speculation and not a confirmation of the story of the series and when it will take place or if it's actually going to happen.

The Imprisoning War - Decline Timeline

The Imprisoning War serves as a back story for the Super Nintendo title 'A Link To The Past.' After Link died in the final battle in Ocarina of Time, Zelda and the Sages amassed an army to seal Ganondorf into the Sacred Realm. During Ganondorf's entrapment, the Sacred Realm began to turn into 'The Dark World' and slowly seeped its way into Hyrule which in turn led to the events of 'A Link To The Past'

The Great Flood - Adult Timeline

'The Great Flood' is an event where the King of Hyrule called upon the Goddesses to flood the land to prevent Ganondorf from claiming the Triforce and taking over the Kingdom. A series that covered the events leading up to the Flood would be interesting and would allow a character that hardly gets any form of screen time a chance to shine.

The Founding of New Hyrule - Adult Timeline

After the events of 'Phantom Hourglass,' Link and Zelda sailed the seas and found a new land and called it 'New Hyrule.' If Netflix is aiming to make the series a 'Game of Thrones for families' watching all the political dealings and wars to get this new kingdom established would be a right fit.

    The Suface - Origin Timeline

This would take place right after the events of 'Skyward Sword' and have Link and Zelda moving forward to establishing the Kingdom of Hyrule and attempt to bring the citizens of their home at Skyloft out of the skies and onto The Surface.

    A Non-Canon Story

Since this is a live-action television series, Nintendo could approach this in a similar fashion like 'Hyrule Warriors' and just state that this series falls out of the Timeline and is considered not cannon. This would give Netflix a little more creative freedom.
