With Disney throwing a massive amount of resources behind their new Star Wars property, one of the more interesting things to come out of Star Wars Celebration was the news that Luscasfilm would not shy away from using emerging technologies like virtual reality to tell Star Wars stories. Case in point? A brand new Darth Vader virtual reality experience, which the folks at Entertainment Weekly have written up alongside quotes from the producers and crew.
There are a lot of Darth Vaders. In video games and cartoons and ancillary appearances, many men have filled his armor and respirator. But if you’re making a Star Wars movie, then there’s only one true voice of Vader: James Earl Jones.
With Rogue One: A Star Wars Story set betwixt the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, and with a story that involves the band of Rebels who stole the plans for the original Death Star (the same plans that Princess Leia gave to R2-D2, sparking the plot of the original Star Wars), it would only make sense that the Empire’s villain supreme, Darth Vader, would be involved somehow. I mean, he has to be right? What is he, asleep at the wheel of the TIE fighter? C’mon.
On May the fourth (be with you) Rob Lopez, a father from Coral Springs, FL, decided it was time to invite his 2-year old son Sebastian to "join him on the dark side", by waking him up dressed as Darth Vader.
Despite being the lead villain and one of the most iconic characters in cinematic history, Darth Vader only has 12 minutes of screen time in the first Star Wars movie; that’s less than 10% of the movie. That’s just one of the facts packed into the latest episode of You Think You Know Movies, which catches up with the Sith Lord, Darth Vader!
One thing's for sure, Darth Vader wouldn't be the iconic figure and villain he is without his respirator and deep ominous voice. I doubt anyone would have feared him, Sith Lord or not if he still had the voice of Anakin Skywalker.
With all the buzz about the upcoming Star Wars film and Disney who now holds the rights to the franchise it was only a matter of time before both worlds collided. Hopefully later this year we'll be in theaters watching Star Wars: Episode 7 which reunites several members of the original cast! In the mean time we have to settle for teasers, updates and the occasional glimpse of what's to come.
