As the front man for Queen, Freddie Mercury sang, 'I'm a shooting star leaping through the sky'. And, after the 70th anniversary of the singer's birth on Monday, that line has never been more true.

While in Switzerland for a performance, Queen guitarist Brian May released a YouTube video announcing the renaming Asteroid 1747, which is located in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. In the video, May described the asteroid, which was discovered in 1991, as a "very special dot of light". The asteroid was discovered in the same year that Mercury, born Farrokh Bulsara on September 5, 1946, passed away.

A fine remembrance of an artist who once shone so bright. It brings a whole new meaning to the phrase "rock on."
