Austin Carlile's recent reply to a fan's question as to why he "wouldn't ever consider rejoining Of Mice & Men" offered further insight into the reasoning behind his departure. "[I] want to make different music!" he wrote in response to their Instagram comment. "Their last album wasn't one I would have wanted to sing over anyways and [for] Cold World I only wrote, like, four songs... Take it Back to Restoring Force and 'Storm,' 'Depths,' 'Flood,' etc."

Carlile recently confirmed his plans to return to music and was working on it when he was hospitalized due to complications with his Marfans Syndrome condition. While in the hospital, he alluded to future plans, saying, "This small bout came out of nowhere and I will leave it behind just as quickly. God has been working immensely in my life and I have been working on new things that I've poured my entire heart into and cannot wait to share them with you." he was released on Aug. 26.

While teasing his return to music, a rumor began floating around that he was the new vocalist of Linkin Park. He has since denied any such plans.
